Is the church growing worldwide?

Here in the United States, we’ve seen some remarkable stories about 1000s of college students coming to know Jesus (see, for example my article).

What about worldwide? Are there people across the globe coming to Jesus?

According to the Pew Research Center, the answer is “Yes,” although a shift in where the church is growing is expected: to sub-Sahara Africa, throughout the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region; and away from North America and Europe.

According to Global Christian Relief, the top five countries where Christianity is growing the fastest are Nigeria, China, India, Indonesia, and Brazil.

We here in the first quarter of the 21st century are witnessing an amazing shift toward Church growth in Muslim countries, some of which legally ban conversion to Christianity. Recently, we have heard reports of dreams of a “man in white” among Muslims who understand him to be Issa (Jesus) and who counsels them to pay attention to someone, often a Christian missionary, who will contact them soon.

We are seeing the vision of John the apostle, coming to fulfillment:

“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9).

Hallelujah! God’s plan to bring humanity to himself is succeeding. We can choose to participate and cooperate with his plan, ignore it, or even resist it. I want to be part of it. How about you?

Edward Wolfe

Edward Wolfe has been a fan of Christian apologetics since his teenage years, when he began seriously to question the truth of the Bible and the reality of Jesus. About twenty years ago, he started noticing that Christian evidences roughly fell into five categories, the five featured on this website.
Although much of his professional life has been in Christian circles (12 years on the faculties of Pacific Christian College, now a part of Hope International University, and Manhattan Christian College and also 12 years at First Christian Church of Tempe), much of his professional life has been in public institutions (4 years at the University of Colorado and 19 years at Tempe Preparatory Academy).
His formal academic preparation has been in the field of music. His bachelor degree was in Church Music with a minor in Bible where he studied with Roger Koerner, Sue Magnusson, Russel Squire, and John Rowe; his master’s was in Choral Conducting where he studied with Howard Swan, Gordon Paine, and Roger Ardrey; and his doctorate was in Piano Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature, where he also studied group dynamics, humanistic psychology, and Gestalt theory with Guy Duckworth.
He and his wife Louise have four grown children and six grandchildren.
